THE EXPERIENCE
True adventure lies in Iceland in the winter time: ice caves, glacier lagoons, glacier trekking, taking a dip in geothermal pools, and best yet – a chance to see the northern lights. Visiting Iceland in the winter is a totally different experience than the summer and has less crowds.
Iceland’s stark, pristine scenery has been shaped by fire and ice: More than 200 volcanoes and numerous glaciers form the country’s landscape. It’s a frozen land that’s always letting off steam. Its U-shaped valleys, jagged lava fields, monstrous ice caps, hot springs and geysers have carved a rugged, bizarre landscape you won’t see anywhere else on Earth. But you don’t need the fortitude of a Viking to enjoy Iceland. In fact, you can experience many of its extremes in relative comfort.
Iceland’s raw nature is sublime. It is like no place else on Earth.
OPTIONAL ADD ON: If you are arriving or departing at least one day early or late, you have the option of doing a Silfra Fissure Snorkeling tour.
INTO THE BLUE ADD ON
Pick up in Reykjavik at 08:30 or 12:00.
Located in the heart of Thingvellir National Park, this narrow volcanic canyon of crystal-clear glacier and vibrant blue water meandering through a giant lava field does not look like much on the surface. Put on a mask and look below and you find supernatural shades of blue, perfect visibility and incredible rock formations make up a magical sub-aquatic paradise.
As if this wasn’t alluring enough, Silfra Fissure is also the only place in the universe where you can go snorkeling in between the continental plates, slowy drifting apart splitting iceland in two. Make your next big adventure a rare one!
Price is $250 per person. – email Bailey at baileymhappy@gmail.com if you wish to book the add on.

Trip Overview
Day 1 :
Welcome to Iceland!
Your epic journey through lush lava fields and the windswept landscapes of Iceland begins in the quirky capital of Reykjavik. The northernmost capital of the world seems infused with vivid colour, from the bustling byway of Laugavegur to the enthusiasm of the city’s friendly locals. Spend time exploring Iceland’s Viking heritage, pay tribute to the sun and snap a selfie in front of The Sun Voyager or stroll around the lively Old Harbour before meeting your Guide and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception to kick-start your love affair with Iceland.
Hotel: Fosshotel Reykjavík
Day 2 :
Into the Glacier
Today we go Into the Glacier! This adventure will lead you to the untouched beauty and raw nature of Langjokull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. Enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime as we journey up the white slopes and go deep inside the man-made ice tunnels leading to the blue heart of the glacier. We will ride in modified glacier vehicles specially made to explore the glacier environment and enjoy the view as we drive on top of the ice cap. Our experienced guides will lead the way and make sure that everyone is both enjoying themselves and learning the basics of glacier knowledge.
Hotel: Fosshotel Stykkishólmur
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 :
Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Lava Cave
Head along the rugged shores of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, whose geological wonders you’ll get to explore later. See pretty fishing villages and admire your serene surrounds, characterised by lava fields, volcanoes, glaciers, springs, and yellow and black sand beaches. We will be visiting Budir Church, Arnarstapi, Kirkjufell Mountain, Londrangar, and Djupalonssandur Beach. Also today we will be visiting a Lava Cave. The area all around the glacier contains hundreds of lava tubes, which makes the area really special for those interested in caves.
Hotel: Fosshotel Stykkishólmur
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4 :
Golden Circle and Frideimar
Mother Nature’s magic touch can be seen around every turn on today’s exploration of Iceland’s ‘Golden Circle’. Visit the ‘Golden Waterfall’ of Gullfoss, saved at the turn of the last century by the tenacity of a farmer’s daughter who threatened to throw herself into its depths if it was developed for hydroelectric power. Then, head to the world-famous hot spring area of Geysir and see Strokkur shoot a spectacular plume of water and steam high into the air. You’ll see first-hand how the movements of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates have carved into the Earth’s crust, in the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, before stopping at Frideimar Greenhouse.
At Frideimar, visitors gain an insight into the processes of greenhouse horticulture, with a short and informative talk on the subject – and in fact it is quite remarkable that it should be possible to grow vegetables in this cold climate, by creating warm Mediterranean conditions, all year round, through the long dark winter. The Atrium also includes an exhibition about the use of geothermal heating in Icelandic horticulture.
Hotel: Hotel Skogafoss
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 5 :
Glacier Lagoon & Black Sand Beaches
Jokulsarlon iceberg lagoon is Iceland’s deepest and most spectacular glacial lake. You’ll see plenty of broken blue icebergs at Jökulsárlón – and the contrast against the white backdrop of the distant glacier and the black sand of the lagoon’s beach is truly other-worldly. We will also be making stops at the Black Sand Beaches in Vik and in Skaftafell.
Hotel: Hotel Skogafoss
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 6 :
Glacier Hike and Blue Lagoon
After breakfast, we will embark on the Sólheimajökull 3-Hour Glacier Hike. Live life to the fullest with this exhilarating glacier hiking tour up one of the most magnificent features of the South of Iceland, the mighty Sólheimajökull glacier. This expedition is the perfect opportunity for those who want to combine stunning natural landscapes with adventures hiking on glacial ice mixed with volcanic ash. It makes you feel like you have landed on the moon.
Later, we will head to the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon was formed in 1976 during operation at the nearby geothermal power plant. In the years that followed, people began to bathe in the unique water and apply the silica mud to their skin. On its way to the surface, the water picks up silica and minerals, before emerging at a soothing 38°C (100°F). Perfect for a relaxing and re-energizing bath. After enjoying a dip, we will have a farewell dinner!
Hotel: Fosshotel Reykjavík
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 7 :
Goodbye!
After breakfast at the hotel, a transfer will take you to the airport to head home!

Terms and Conditions
Group Trip Cancellations.
If YCSMH has to cancel a group trip because a country has closed its borders, everyone will have a choice of receiving a refund or being rolled over to another group trip. The decision to cancel a group trip will be determined by myself and our local guides.
DEPOSITS PAID- CANCEL WITH NO REPLACEMENT
If you cancel a booking and cannot find a replacement the FULL deposit amount will be lost from the original person making the reservation.
DEPOSITS PAID- CANCEL WITH A REPLACEMENT – $100 Penalty
If YOU cancel and find your own replacement that “helps” but it doesn’t alleviate the time and effort I must spend to get your replacement up to speed (answer questions and send previous emails). A $100 fee will be charged if you cancel and find your own replacement.
FULL PAYMENTS PAID- CANCEL WITH NO REPLACEMENT- 90 DAYS BEFORE TRIP DEPARTURE
Full payments for all Happy trips are due 90 days before departure. If you cancel the trip you will not be eligible to receive a refund. You will need to file a claim with your insurance provider. As a rule most tour vendors, charter companies and hotels require full payment 90 days before arrival. Once we have made reservations MOST resorts, Charter companies, rental shops, etc hold YCSMH financially responsible (i.e. we have to pay them, hence we expect YOU to pay us).
.
FULL PAYMENTS PAID- CANCEL WITH A REPLACEMENT- 90 DAYS BEFORE TRIP DEPARTURE
In the event of a cancellation, YCSMH will gladly help find a replacement but the responsibility to find the replacement is that of the person canceling. If you find a replacement to fill your spot you will be eligible for a full refund minus a $100 fee.
If YCSMH finds you a replacement you will receive a refund minus the trip deposit. As I mentioned there is a considerable amount of time and effort spent to send out emails to your replacement to get them up to speed.
I hope this helps clarify our terms as we all navigate through this post pandemic world. For those of us who are passionate travelers the small inconveniences of testing, insurance and entry requirements are well worth it.
